Second Grade students and teachers will have the opportunity to experience a live music performance as part of the Cultural Passport program. Seating is very limited, so review the options below and click the Application link beneath the Cultural Passport heading on this page to apply.

Educators understand the importance of providing enough background knowledge to ensure students can fully participate and engage in all that an experience has to offer. This webpage is designed to familiarize you with the selected performers and performances and to give you access to curriculum to guide your instruction as you prepare students for the experience.

The New World Symphony is dedicated to the artistic, personal and professional development of outstanding instrumentalists. The NWS fellowship program provides top graduates of music programs the opportunity to enhance their musical education with the finest professional training. A laboratory for musical education and expression, the New World Symphony, through a wide range of performance and instructional activities, seeks to develop in participants the full complement of skills and qualifications required of twenty-first century first class musicians. Under the artistic direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, the program offers in-depth exposure to traditional and modern repertoire, with the active involvement of leading guest conductors, soloists and coaches. The relationships with these artists are extended through NWS' pioneering experimentation with distance learning via Internet2.

About The Purple Palace
In the land of Chromatica, everything is light and color -until the selfish Princess Purple banishes all the other colors! She eventually realizes that her actions were misguided and invites all of the other colors to return -diversity and tolerance ultimately triumph. Performed by a Narrator and thirty-two musicians from Orchestra Miami, Elaine Rinaldi, conducting. Music by Bruce Adolphe and story by Louise Gikow.
