The organization is active in promoting and maintaining quality dance education in the public schools, and it produces the Superintendent’s Dance Showcase and Student Choreography Showcase as well as once-a-year intensive workshops for middle and high school students.
National Dance Association (NDA)
National Dance Association, part of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, offers an annual 5- day conference in the spring at locations which change yearly. Conferences have been held in Portland, Denver, New Orleans, and Boston. Teaching methods and materials as well as costume needs are featured at the conference.
Florida Dance Association (FDA)
Florida Dance Association is a service organization for dancers and dance educators. Its mission is to encourage excellence and support artistic and cultural diversity in dance, and to increase opportunities for people of all ages to experience the art form. The association accomplishes this through programs which facilitate the creation, teaching, presentation and administration of dance and the related arts. One of FDA's most visible projects is the annual Florida Dance Festival (FDF), which is now in its twentieth year of offering technique classes, discussion panels and seminars in relevant issues, and producing adjudicated performances of works submitted by its members.
Florida Dance Education Organization, a state affiliate of the National Dance Education Organization was incorporated in February 2003. Its mission is to advance dance education centered in the arts. The organization developed as the result of a need for a statewide organization to focus on the needs of dance educators in Florida’s school systems. In October 2002 the Dade Association of Dance Educators extended an invitation to public and private school as well as to college and university dance educators. Sixty dance educators from throughout the state met in Coral Gables; formed the nucleus of the organization; addressed issues of curriculum, teaching technique, and relationship of dance to other art forms; and aligned with the National Dance Education Organization.
National Dance Education Organization (NDEO)
The National Dance Education Organization’s mission is to advance dance education centered in the arts. Recipient of a 3 year U.S. Department of Education research grant for $673,000, NDEO has embarked on the Research in Dance Education (RDE) project. NDEO will collect and analyze data on dance programs and research publications in the U.S.; analyze the data according to patterns, trends, and future priorities; publish a report to the nation on the status of dance education; and establish a Research Center for Dance Education at a major research university. All of the research is designed to support dance educators in their work in the schools and in the private sector. The 2011 Annual NDEO Conference will be held in collaboration with the American Dance Therapy Association, the International Guild for Musicians in Dance, the Perpich Center for Arts Education, and the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts.
